Proper Wedding Attire

A couple’s wedding day is undoubtedly one of the most important days of their lives. Newlyweds go to great lengths to ensure the aesthetic of their day is cohesive and representative of them as a couple - down to pet-inspired signature cocktails and carefully selected party favors in the form of bedazzled plastic sunglasses and light-up cowboy hats. The curation of this important day is no longer as simple as “gold or silver accents?” or “boho or glitzy?”.

Couples have begun to ask themselves, what really fills the room on their wedding day? While the venue, color palette, and floral design are certainly indicative of the overall aesthetic, what is the largest force moving through their space on this important evening? Couples have found their answer to this question in their own friends and family.

While wedding invitations almost always include a dress code, former stipulations typically requested their guests wear either black tie or cocktail attire. In recent years, it is not uncommon for a wedding invite to request guests wear specific colors: pastels, shades of blue, jewel tones. Most popularly, a wedding will follow an “all black” dress code; this suggestion ensures the aesthetic of the evening remains unperturbed by a hot orange dress on a white-and-blush type of evening. Many couples will go so far as to include a mood board of colors and styles of formal wear in order to nudge their guests in the right direction.

Some guests might find this request stressful, but many find it helpful in their hopes to be appropriately dressed for the evening. When the guests arrive on-theme for the occasion, the effect is palpable. It’s as if the couple’s friends and family are perfectly cast as moving parts of the night’s decor. The cohesiveness that a perfectly dressed guest list brings to the night is unquestionable. Photographers are surely grateful that the secondary subjects of their lens - the guests - are on par with the rest of the aesthetic of the wedding day.

The floral design and fashion direction of a wedding night go hand in hand; the colors and textures of the clothing and flowers are able to inspire the other to create the perfect, individualized aesthetic!
